[Self Portrait, Piet Mondrian, 1918]
Progenitor and Progeny
Brick-backed and shuttered window, a stale halo
of conflicted virility locks around her
He contains the just-sprung child static
beneath his heartless side.
She sucks in breath mouthing tiny nipple-wishing
fingers teetering among the dry sticks
of two magnificent hands.
His brawny skull of disciplined hair locks right.
His forehead contracts from vertical yawn.
His mouth sets to Admirable Perseverance.
She knows each breath on the cliff’s edge over the hollow of him.
